Music Does Not Continue to Play to the End of a Powerpoint Slide Show
1. Was the presentation created in an earlier version of PowerPoint?
2. What is the effect options set to for the audio file in the presentations?
3. Can you try to reproduce the same in a new presentation and check if it is working?

"Stop playing After 2 slides" means one slide transition to PowerPoint . When you link back it will see this as the third slide. Does it work if you choose stap after a number more than 2?

This is a very old post, but I came across it looking for an answer to something else.
Both you and the original poster are correct. PowerPoint 2007 and 2010 think about this same function very differently. PowerPoint 2007 counts the slide numbers while 2010 counts the number of transitions.
Stop playing after 2 slides in 2007 means that if the audio starts on slide 1, if you hyperlink from slide 1 to slide 3, the music will stop. You can jump from slide 1 to slide 2 forever and it won't stop.
In 2010 and 2013 it means that after two transitions it will stop. You could link from slide 1 to slide 100 hundred and it would play. However, if you go from slide 1 to slide 2 and back to slide 1 it will stop like the problem you have now.
I unfortunately haven't thought of a way to get that functionality back in newer versions.
I don't understand why they changed the functionality of this without changing the wording. When I make templates for sharing with many people to use I have to make seperate 2007 and 2010 versions mostly because of that one difference. There are advantages to both ways of doing this and I think it would be best to have two seperate controls for "Stop after # of transitions" and "Play until Slide #."

Interesting but I cannot repro here in 2007

For me 2007 and 2010 do pretty much the same and stops after 2 transitions when I try either of the above.
My 2007 is fully updated BTW with Service Pack 3

Wow, you're right. I swear it worked that way before. Before I had to have several blank "buffer" slides to create enough distance between hyperlinked slides to have audio stop. I haven't needed to do that in a while, I guessed it changed with an update.

I figured how to do what the OP wanted because I needed to do it too. Instead of linking to a specific slide number, on your first slide set it to "Next Slide" and "Previous Slide" for the second slide's link. Then you can go between them with no problem.
